New Delhi: Over 150 Delhi University students were arrested during a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) organized by student groups including Fraternity, Muslim Students Federation, Students Islamic Organization, All India Students Association, DSU, and Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch. Students argued the central government was implementing a Sangh Parivar agenda ahead of elections. Police entered the campus, with reports of manhandling and forcible removal of hijabs.
Protests continued at various Indian campuses like Jamia Millia Islamia, JNU, and EFLU. An Aligarh Muslim University student was detained for an hour by police for questioning over an anti-CAA poster shared online. The student groups accused authorities of curbing dissent. Opposing perspectives emerged on the constitutionality and motives behind the amended citizenship law’s provisions. The situation highlighted the charged atmosphere surrounding the CAA’s implementation across the nation’s academic institutions.
