In a tragic incident that unfolded on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express on Monday, July 31, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable named Chetan Singh shot dead four individuals, three of whom were identified as Muslims. The incident took a disturbing turn as Singh, while committing the act, yelled “If you want to stay in Hindustan, vote for Yogi (UP chief minister) & Modi (Prime Minister).”.
Disturbing visuals of the incident surfaced on the internet shortly after it occurred. In one video, the accused, armed with an automatic service rifle, was heard saying, “Agar vote dena hai, Hindustan mei rahna hai, to Modi aur Yogi… Yahi do hai” (If you want to stay in Hindustan, vote for Yogi (UP chief minister) & Modi (Prime Minister)).
The victims were identified as Abdul Kadir, Asgar Kai, and Mohd Hussain, while the deceased police officer was Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tika Ram Meena.
According to sources, the shooting followed an argument that took an anti-Muslim turn, leading to this horrifying act. Singh, 33, was detained and taken into custody by the railway police. He attempted to escape by pulling the train’s alarm chain and getting down at Borivali, but he later surrendered himself at the Bhayandar police station.
The incident occurred around 5 am, near Vaitarna Railway Station, approximately two hours away from Mumbai. Singh fired 12 rounds from his automatic service weapon, targeting ASI Meena first inside the B-5 coach. He then shot and killed Abdul Kadir, followed by an unidentified man in the pantry car. Finally, he moved to the S-6 coach and shot Asgar Kai, who was a bangle seller from Jaipur.
AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi reacted to the incident with concern, stating that it seemed to be a terror attack specifically targeting Muslims. He expressed apprehensions about potential political support for the accused RPF jawan in the future.
